Freego Electric Bicycle Troubleshooting Guide
Below are common electric bicycle issues, their possible causes, and step-by-step troubleshooting instructions.
- Check if there is a fault code on the display.
- Ensure the motor cable is properly connected. Try unplugging and reconnecting it.
- Listen for electrical noise from the e-bike. Does the display show speed?
Replace the controller or motor.
- Ensure that the speed level is 1-5, if it is 0, it cannot accelerate.
- Does the meter display an exclamation mark or brake lever malfunction?
- For some new models of F2Pro and F3pro, there are new features that lock the bike as soon as you open it up, you need to brake once, then twist the throttle, it will unlock and work.
- Check if the ebike emits an electric current sound, and replace the handle if there is an electric current sound.
- If there is no current sound, it may be a motor or controller malfunction.
Replace the throttle, controller, or motor.
- Long press the M key to turn the accelerator, indicating that the meter85 is broken.
- Measure the battery voltage with a multimeter. If it is far below 53V, it means the battery is broken.
- Ensure that the battery is installed properly and make sure the battery switch is at "on" position (it has I & O, put it "I" position).
Replace the meter or battery.
- Has the red dual drive button been pressed down?
- Is there an arrow at the interface of the front wheel motor wire? Pull out the motor wire connector and plug it back in before trying again.
- During the cross test of the front and rear motor wires, connect the rear wheel motor wires to the front wheel. If the front wheels rotate normally, it means the controller is broken. If the front wheels do not work, it means the motor is broken.
Replace the controller or motor.
- Measure the output voltage of the charger with a multimeter.
The output voltage of the charger is about 42V, which is normal. Otherwise, it is a faulty charger. Replace the charger. The output voltage of the battery is about 53V, which is normal. If it is far below this value, the battery needs to be replaced.
- First, check if the battery voltage is normal.
- If the battery voltage is normal, replace the meter.
Replace the meter or battery.
Adjusting the brake.
Adjust or replace the brake components.
Replacing the toothed disc crank.
Replace the toothed disc crank.
Add brake fluid.
Add brake fluid or replace brake components.
- Press the brake lever to turn on the device while it is turned off (do not release it midway).
- Release the brake lever after 20 seconds and enter USA mode.
- Repeat the same method to enter Europe mode.
- If it still doesn't work, press the M key on the meter twice in a row. The speed bar in the upper left corner of the meter will change and display 2/3 or 3/3 (full scale).
- Despite trying the first two methods, the maximum speed cannot be changed. Try adjusting the value of P08 to 100.
Switch to USA mode or adjust P08 parameter to 100.
Important Safety Notice
If you're unsure about any repair or diagnosis, always consult a qualified technician. Electrical components should be handled with care, and the battery should be disconnected before attempting any repairs.

How to Change Speed Mode on Your E-Bike
A guide to understanding and adjusting your Freego e-bike speed settings while staying safe and legal.
Problem Statement
Many riders notice their e-bike seems "limited" and wonder how to adjust the speed settings. Common concerns include:
- E-bike only reaching about 15-20 MPH
- How to switch from European working mode to American mode
- How to remove or adjust the speed limit
- Confusion about why the bike won't go faster on public roads
European Mode
Default for EU markets
US Public Roads
Class 1/2/3 regulations
Off-Road Mode
For private property
Solution and Explanation
1. Factory Settings & Road Legality
Our e-bikes are programmed at the factory to comply with local road laws and safety regulations:
- For European markets, the bike is typically set to a maximum assisted speed of 15 MPH.
- In the United States, the default settings align with Class 1, 2, or 3 regulations, commonly limiting speeds to 15 MPH or 20 MPH on public roads.
These preset configurations ensure your e-bike is street-legal and safe for both you and others.
2. U.S. Regulations and Speed Classes
U.S. regulations categorize e-bikes by maximum assisted speed:
Class 1 & 2 E-Bikes
Typically have a maximum assisted speed of 20 MPH with motor assistance.
Class 3 E-Bikes
Typically have a maximum assisted speed of 28 MPH with motor assistance.
Off-Road Mode
Some configurations can offer a higher top speed (e.g., up to 31 MPH) for use on private property or designated off-road areas.
Our factory settings reflect these classifications to ensure legal compliance on public roads.
3. Switching Working Modes & Speed Limit Options
If you wish to change the mode or access higher speeds (e.g., for off-road use), detailed instructions are available in our video guides. We have three instructional videos that demonstrate the process:
Video Guides: How to Change Speed Modes
Follow the step-by-step instructions in these videos to adjust your bike's settings:
Note: Please follow the steps in the videos carefully to adjust your bike's settings. If you're unsure about any step, contact our support team.
4. Riding Safely and Legally
Important Safety Information
- The e-bike is designed to operate safely and efficiently within legal limits for public roads.
- Always ensure any mode changes or modifications comply with your local laws.
- The higher-speed modes (28+ MPH) are intended primarily for off-road use.
- Riding at higher speeds on public roads may violate local regulations and compromise safety.
Conclusion
This information helps you understand the balance between enjoying your e-bike's performance capabilities and adhering to legal speed limits required for safe, compliant operation on public roads.
Remember: Always prioritize safety and legal compliance when adjusting your e-bike settings.

This issue typically indicates a motor malfunction. When the motor produces a loud noise but the wheel doesn't turn, it's a clear sign that the motor is faulty. In this case, you don't need to check the power supply or the instrument panel. The solution is to replace the motor. You have two options:
- Replace the Entire Motor: This can involve removing the spokes from the wheel and replacing the motor unit.
- Replace the Core of the Motor: You can simply open the motor cover and replace the core component, known as the "Core of Motor," which is the central control part of the motor.
Replacing just the core is often a simpler and more efficient solution.

What Height and Weight Are Our Electric Bikes Suitable For?
Find the perfect Freego e-bike fit for your body type and riding style.
We tested our e-bikes with people of different heights and body types to determine the optimal height range and weight capacity.
* Manual measurement, there may be a variance of 1-2cm
This range provides optimal comfort, control, and riding efficiency for most riders.
This includes the weight of the rider plus any cargo or accessories.
Important Considerations
For riders below 5'3" (160cm): Your leg may not comfortably reach the ground when stopped, which could affect stability and confidence.
For riders exceeding 120kg (264.5 lbs): The bike's performance may be affected, and battery life could be shortened due to increased load on the motor and electrical system.
While we provide these general guidelines, the best way to determine if a Freego e-bike is right for you is to consider your individual proportions and riding preferences.
- Riders at the lower end of the height range may prefer to adjust the seat to its lowest position
- Taller riders can maximize comfort by adjusting the seat and handlebars to their preferred position
- For riders close to the weight limit, consider minimizing additional cargo for optimal performance

Why is there a loud noise from the rear wheel after turning on the bike, but the wheel doesn't spin?
Problem Diagnosis
This issue typically indicates a motor malfunction. When the motor produces a loud noise but the wheel doesn't turn, it's a clear sign that the motor is faulty.
In this case, you don't need to check the power supply or the instrument panel. The problem lies with the motor itself.
Important Note
If you experience this issue, do not continue trying to start the bike, as this could cause further damage to the motor or other components.
Solutions
To resolve this issue, you need to replace the motor. We offer two different solutions for you to choose from:
Option 1: Replace the Entire Motor
This can involve removing the spokes from the wheel and replacing the motor unit.
- Requires removing wheel spokes
- Replaces the complete motor assembly
- Suitable when motor housing is also damaged
- May require more time and expertise
Option 2: Replace the Core of the Motor
You can simply open the motor cover and replace the core component, known as the "Core of Motor," which is the central control part of the motor.
- Only replaces the core component
- Retains original motor housing and spokes
- Typically more cost-effective
- Simpler and quicker replacement process
Our Recommendation
Replacing just the core is often a simpler and more efficient solution. This approach can save time, reduce costs, and typically doesn't require disassembling the entire wheel structure.
If only the internal components are damaged while the housing remains intact, replacing the core is the best option. However, if the motor housing is also damaged, replacing the entire motor may be necessary.

How to judge a bicycle fault through the dashboard?
We can see if the bike is malfunctioning from the dashboard to ensure safe driving. The fault code appears in the lower right corner of the dashboard and will be displayed in the form of "E0X".
Fault code location on dashboard
Normal Condition
Safe riding condition, no faults detected.
Brake Failure
Diagnosis:
Find the brake cable (usually connected to the bicycle handle, there are two left and right), and unplug the brake cable for testing.
- If the E02 error code disappears after the brake cable on the right is unplugged, it can be determined that there is a problem with the brake on the right.
- Otherwise, the left brake handle is faulty.
- If the E02 fault error code still exists after the left and right brake wires are unplugged, it is judged that the controller is faulty.
Solution:
According to the fault judgment result, replace the brake lever or replace the controller.
Power Assist Sensor Failure
Solution:
Replacement of power assist sensor required.
Replacement Parts:
You can find replacement parts here:
https://freegoriders.com/collections/equipmentBattery Undervoltage
Diagnosis:
After the battery is fully charged, if the E06 fault code does not disappear, it is judged that the connecting wire or the controller is faulty, and it is necessary to check whether the connecting wire is damaged or broken.
Solution:
Fully charge the battery, replace the cable, or replace the controller.
Motor Failure
Diagnosis:
First, check whether the connecting line is damaged, short-circuited or not connected well. If all connections are intact, the controller is faulty.
Solution:
Replace the cable or replace the controller.
Accelerator (Throttle) Failure
Diagnosis:
Check whether the pins in the adapter connector are in good condition. If there is no problem with the connection line, it is the controller problem.
Solution:
Replace the cable or replace the controller.
Controller Failure
Solution:
Replace the controller.
